Wainilu, nestled just across from Rinca Island near the park’s ranger station, is Komodo’s premier muck diving destination. Don’t let the modest setting fool you — this sandy slope is legendary among macro enthusiasts. With little coral and minimal current, Wainilu offers a calm, controlled environment ideal for spotting the strangest and most elusive marine life in the park.
From flamboyant cuttlefish to frogfish and rare nudibranchs, this site delivers a treasure hunt of tiny creatures — perfect for photographers, critter fanatics, and those who know that sometimes the best things in diving come in small, camouflaged packages.
Wainilu is often the first (or last) stop on our dive itineraries — perfect for check dives, night dives, or slow macro exploration. Join Azul Komodo for a guided muck dive and unlock the secrets of the sand.
