Komodo National Park Dive Sites
Siaba Besar Central Komodo | Beginner-friendly, critter-packed, and full of surprises — macro heaven in a sheltered bay.
8.6070°S, 119.6200°E
Siaba Besar is one of Komodo’s hidden gems — a wide, protected plateau ideal for newer divers and macro lovers alike. Located in a calm bay on the south side of Siaba Besar Island, this site offers easy conditions with high reward: a sandy bottom rich in rare and photogenic marine life, ringed by a healthy reef bustling with color.
Overview
Unlike Komodo’s more challenging sites, Siaba Besar offers a gentler introduction to the park’s underwater wonders. This protected bay combines shallow reefs, sandy slopes, and crystal-clear waters, making it both a premier training ground and a photographer’s dream.
Long overlooked by many divers, Siaba Besar has become a favorite among those in the know. While the reef edge holds schools of reef fish and vibrant coral, it’s the central sand patches and scattered bommies that steal the show — hosting everything from flamboyant cuttlefish to ghost pipefish and even the elusive wunderpus.
